Bangalore Home Design-Deepa Sriram
We live in a 3300 square feet penthouse in Whitefield, Bangalore. This new home of ours is part of a housing complex called TZED – Zero Emission Development. Borewells for water, reverse osmosis treatment, solar-heated water, and recycled water for gardening—this place stole our heart. Bangalore Home Design
We have tried our best to follow the principles of the community while re-designing and decorating our home.
The theme evident in our home décor is simple and Indian – old country/ rustic feel with Asian accents.
Every room has original brick/laterite walls and we decided not to plaster them.
Laterite walls are strong yet porous and keep the rooms cool. We retained the natural granite flooring.
The laminate wooden flooring was changed to solid wooden bamboo flooring.
Our home was decorated with furniture made of plantation rubberwood and teak.
Vitrified tiles were avoided as these are heated at high temperatures—we didn’t want to add to global warming.
Décor lights and spotlights were vetoed as they create wastage—we wanted every light and every fitting to be energy efficient.
and other idols grace the interiors of our home.
Non VOC paints and water-based enamels (lead free) as opposed to oil-based ones have been used in our home.
The rubberwood furniture has polyurethane coating,
eliminating solvent thinnable melamine.
We have also cultivated a little herb garden
and a little patch with fragrant flowers.
We love our ‘green’ home.
